“Oh my goodness, how exciting is this??? I cannot tell you all enough how honoured I am to be your resident Magical Agony Auntie, your No.1 Fey for solving spiritual and cosmic distress. As well as a general all round Goddess for go to advice here in Precious Pixie Corner.
But firstly please allow me to introduce myself properly. I am of course Vagina Buttercup, Witch & Druid of this and many other realms, and long time resident of a little known & much hidden place called Magpie Bottom. This will, I hope, become a little space of sacred sharing of advice as well as the problems & the trials and tribulations that we can face in our world. So please don’t be shy, do send in your quires, your life quandaries and all round magical problems and I will do my best to answer all of your questions to the best of my abilities. However, for this month, I thought I would start us off with a question that in recent years seems to have become ‘a bit of a thing’. In fact I’ve lost track how many times I’ve been asked this particular question, which is....
“What colour clothes should I wear in ritual?”
Well firstly Ladies & Gentlemen, are you not magical workers? Sure you understand colour association in your magical/ritual work, and if not why not?...Well my indecisive Witches, Wizards, Druids, Heathens & all & those in between or on either side of these titles....
In short...Whatever you want is the answer! Are we not adults, do we not all know our own minds? Seriously, there does seem to be a serious lack of the basic fundamentals here!
Obviously we should always consider the intent, the focus and/or the time of year, etc.. Yes, yes, my Precious Pixies, I know we all like to dress up, some of you insist on your robes of white, your cloaks & beautiful flower headdresses, glitter, bones & feathers... I know, I know.. I have been known to be rather partial myself. But here’s the thing, increased magical power it does not give. Yes it allows us to step out of the mundane and some may even think it makes them terribly important and grandiose in community standing. Well what tosh is all I have to say to that last part!
But let me be clear here, there is nothing wrong with a drop of pageantry in ritual, of spectacle that helps to create the beauty and the magic. After all are we not there to hold doors open, to create the bridges so that those of us less confident, or knowledgeable and perhaps new to our world, are able to walk through accessing their own experience and making their own connections. How we look and feel helps us in that role and with that purpose.
However, we must not lose sight of the fact that all of the sparkles, frosting, glitter and decoration in the world, means absolutely nothing if the cake that is being adorned is missing most or all of its vital ingredients. Therefore a cake may look yummy but tastes absolutely disgusting. Let that be a lesson to all of you!
So always remember just because somebody looks the part, has the perceived look of the moment and is wearing the up to date clothes that are deemed appropriate pagan fashion, you know the ones I’m talking about... Well let me tell you all right here and now... It don’t necessarily make it so!
Yes coordinating our look in big ritual, being mindful of the intent and focus of the spell we are weaving, all has its place and can indeed be very important. But not understanding colour association (not including those who are opening still new and learning) with the intent, the season with the magic that is being woven means you need to do some homework. Ultimately what you wear, the clothes on your back the velvet cloaks, the white robes, fancy dresses and fabulous adornments, are NOT important in the big scheme of things... They definitely have their place and we love them, but don’t be lemmings my Lovelies, develop your own style, wear what you are comfortable in or what is appropriate for the task at hand and most importantly learn your craft..
So there you have it, we have traversed our first problem shared moment, but please do feel free to email me at spiritofawen@btinternet.com with all your questions, queries, and magical problems. I will look forward to hearing from you. Make sure you mark your email FAO V.Buttercup, Precious Pixie corner...
Until next Month
